I am writing to recommend Nix Construction Co., Inc. for additional construction services with future prospective clients. I have had the pleasure of working directly with Mr. Joe Nix and many of his project managers and superintendents on a number of projects in the past and most recently at the Moss Creek Clubhouse Renovations located in Bluffton, South Carolina. In this project, Nix Construction was working as a major subcontractor. Their scope of work for this project involved all demolition activities for the project, the reframing of the roof over the expanded Veranda, interior kitchen FRP wall panels, and interior & exterior carpentry including trims, doors, custom acoustical wood ceilings, wood shelving, interior custom fabricated light diffuser, and finish door hardware. 

In addition to the above-mentioned project, I have performed owner representation services on numerous projects that Nix Construction has been the General Contractor for over twenty years. 

Nix Construction has illustrated their attention to detail, quality and safety on a number of occasions. It is the policy of this company to strive for the highest safety standards. Working safely is a serious commitment required by everyone within the organization. 

Scheduling within the construction industry is typically an art form in itself and Mr. Nix and his staff has been able to effectively meet project schedule requirements. He and his personnel have been able to quickly adapt to schedule changes from other subcontractors in order to keep his schedule on time and aligned with the overall project schedule. In addition, Nix Construction has been exceptionally accommodating when dealing with unforeseen conditions and potential change orders.

I have had the opportunity to work with Nix Construction for the past year in the construction of the $7.5 million Beaufort County Animal Shelter and Hilton Head Humane Association Animal Services Complex in Okatee, South Carolina. As the firm’s construction contract administrator, I worked with Joe Nix, the president and project manager; and Ivan Hosso, the field superintendent.

Joe, as project manager, has the project management skills required for a large project, providing scheduling, cost management, and construction expertise. His previous work at a large Atlanta contracting firm is evident in the professional way he conducts business. Ivan, as the superintendent, is skilled in management of subcontractors, project organization, and coordination. These two make a formidable team to keep the project in budget and on time.

I found that the lines of communication are always open between Nix and the owner and architect. Requests for additional information are received in advance of the issue becoming time-sensitive to allow for thoughtful responses from the design team. Costs for the inevitable changes in the work are also presented clearly and with adequate back-up to allow for quick evaluation, thus saving the owner and design team valuable time.

Nix Construction does quality work, has in-depth knowledge of construction, and ensures that the subcontractors do a good job and complete their work. I have no reservation in having Nix Construction as the general contractor on any of our future projects.

 In 2022, Wexford commissioned Nix to perform various repairs, including partial replacement, of our cementitious Harbour Bulkhead Wall and Cap. The scope of work was delineated by our Structural Engineer, Thomas & Hutton Engineering. They originally designed the Harbour wall assembly. The work started in April and was completed in September. The cost of the work was just over $200,000.00. Inspection of the work, during and after the varying procedures performed, were approved by Wexford Personnel, its Members, and the Engineer. The project was a success from all fronts.
